“My name is Alexis Montoya and I am the founder of The Bronx Vegan. I am a passionate Puerto Rican and Peruvian Bronxite who cares deeply about veganism, community, and advocacy. There are many reasons to love veganism, but what’s most notable is its impact on animal rights and the environment. As a writer, I hope to use my words to shine a light on veganism in the context of my community and culture.
Beyond The Bronx Vegan, I am an Organizer and Food Blogger for Veggie Mijas, a Women of Color collective that highlights the importance of having a plant-based lifestyle while also intersecting race, gender identity, class, and sexuality. With Veggie Mijas, I explore vegan options in The Bronx through the segment Everybody Eats and POC Negocios. The intention of my work is to create a space for the Bronx and other communities like it in veganism. By approaching veganism with a heavy focus on affordability and accessibility, I hope to inspire a movement that everyone can participate in.”
