“You were three years of water.” How deeply this resonates with me. It comes from bittersweet and intimate memories that I go over a lot mentally. I’m certain that anyone who reads those six simple words has their own encounter of a three year affair or event in their life. It doesn’t even matter.
This very short and sweet poem is from Nejma by Nayyirah Waheed. I truly admire her work and have written on it before. Like many of her other to the point poems, this one can have a very versatile meaning yet all the while keeping its wisdom. This is my perception I’m sharing:
I’d like to take a moment and use some imagery for the purpose of this post. Clear your mind of everything to imagine a green valley. Flourishing and full of life, nature has it that a stream flows through. Flourishing, full of life, and now fruitful for life to flourish… that stream becomes a river. It now bears a different weight and is cutting deeper within the valley. The wider the cut for more water to flow, the more life that comes but it’s not the same valley. It’s characteristics and needs are much different than when it started.
In life there are things that will happen and people you will meet, that are those soft waters. They may not cause a dent right away and it might not be negative at all but it will erode away some things. That’s only natural. It’s up to you as an individual to always be true to yourself and understand the beauty in an ever changing life.
Visible across the United States next month on August 21st, the next total solar eclipse is being dubbed the “Great American Eclipse.” Although, to quite the contrary, America isn’t as great as many of us feel. It’s an awesome event when you strip it of equating to patriotism plus some of South America can view the display too. I’m definitely a woman of the cosmos — I follow our sun’s planetary system and how astronomy and astrology cross. So I’m really excited for this solar eclipse! I got to witness the last one in 2009… my life was so much different then. This time around I feel like it is an act of fate and not only for just myself. The universe has coincided its alignments with society’s tone and dire need for change. These unique moments of planetary behavior bring about the utmost enlightenment and realization. People are more inclined to learn, to listen, to try to understand. But the message of change needs to be spoken, to be taught, to be learnt. Click here to visit NASA’s Total Eclipse page.
Mark your calendars!
For my East-coasters: we should anticipate a 1pm-4pm solar eclipse with totality occurring approximately between 2:41pm and 2:44pm. I’ll update changes if any.
In regards to International Women’s Day, I want to share their incredible website full of insight and information like events, resources, videos, partners, campaigns, etc. Using material like that creates awareness and a great point of reference. Change can come by organization & familiarizing ourselves with the real world local to us.
In addition, below is the infamous Wall Street Bull who has a new opponent to face: The Fearless Girl. Said to rise until April 2nd in New York City, I was completely compelled by her stance full of confidence and determination. It’s exactly what every girl and woman needs to see for genuine empowerment! The round plaque at the girl’s feet reads:
“Know the power of women in leadership.”
Please be your most incredible you today! Prepare to ask for that raise, make a date with a girlfriend you miss, finally research that hobby you’ve been wanting to get into, take the time out and do something that will make your inner self smile ladies!
