Donate your plastic bags to Stay Blooming!
Do you have plastic bags in your home that keep piling up and making a mess?
Did you know that those plastic bags, if disposed of the wrong way, can end up in the environment and take up to 1000 years to degrade?
Did you also know that when plastic bags degrade, they leech chemicals out that are harmful for humans and animals?
Here’s all you need to do to get started:
- Take all of your bags and make sure they are separated from each other. It is bulkier if you have multiples of one bag inside of another (double bagged).
- Put your bags in a box or large envelope that can be shipped.
- Ship your plastic bags to:
3630 East Tremont Avenue #770
Bronx, NY 10465
You’re all done after shipping.
Now you are probably wondering what is going to be done with your bags.
All plastic bags received are going to be processed into plastic yarn, which is called plarn. It is called processing because it takes a series of steps to make it into plarn. First the plastic bags go through a sorting that involve the type of plastic and its color. Then the bags are cut into loop rings and await being knotted. After they are evenly knotted together, this plastic string-like material is rolled up in a ball of yarn. That yarn can then be used, through crocheting or knitting, to make all sorts of things like floor mats, duvet insides, bags, and more.
