Moodiez Review

Hey bloomers! I had the pleasure of receiving complimentary organic hand-crafted samples from this awesome all-natural shop Moodiez. They operate through their Etsy shop and Instagram which makes browsing & purchasing rather easy if you’re an existing user. Plus taking all major credit card and/or PayPal.

Top left and clockwise: pumpkin lip scrub (1), sparkling rose dead sea scrub (2), liberation bath soak (3), and detox clay mask (4). Below is my personal review of the above items. I reviewed them in the order that I tried them:

  1. Pumpkin lip scrub is extremely hydrating. It’s low-key tasty but great to soften lips. I could still feel it there after washing off. I also have some leftovers from sampling.
  2. Rose & vanilla detox clay mask is super easy to use. It literally only needs a tiny bit water if using water. Plus has a relaxing smell. I didn’t notice any effects right away.
  3. Sparkling rose dead sea scrub is amazing. I love the glimmer it leaves and my skin was soft to touch after the shower and the next day. It smells rosy and can feel a bit oily but nonetheless moisturizing.
  4. Liberation bath soak was relaxing. I opted to put in the bag that avoids mess so clean-up was easy. I would love to try it again but with the contents loose in my bath.

Overall, I’m really happy that I was able to try these products. I’m a very low maintenance woman when it comes to my beauty and aesthetics but given that these products are all natural and left me feeling like I was walking on clouds… I would totally buy for myself or as gifts! You should check out the variety of goods that they hav. Ranging from floral pearl highlighters for the make-up girl to an extensive bunch of different bath soaks made for self-care and relaxation.

“You were three years of water.” How deeply this resonates with me. It comes from bittersweet and intimate memories that I go over a lot mentally. I’m certain that anyone who reads those six simple words has their own encounter of a three year affair or event in their life. It doesn’t even matter.

This very short and sweet poem is from Nejma by Nayyirah Waheed. I truly admire her work and have written on it before. Like many of her other to the point poems, this one can have a very versatile meaning yet all the while keeping its wisdom. This is my perception I’m sharing:

I’d like to take a moment and use some imagery for the purpose of this post. Clear your mind of everything to imagine a green valley. Flourishing and full of life, nature has it that a stream flows through. Flourishing, full of life, and now fruitful for life to flourish… that stream becomes a river. It now bears a different weight and is cutting deeper within the valley. The wider the cut for more water to flow, the more life that comes but it’s not the same valley. It’s characteristics and needs are much different than when it started.

In life there are things that will happen and people you will meet, that are those soft waters. They may not cause a dent right away and it might not be negative at all but it will erode away some things. That’s only natural. It’s up to you as an individual to always be true to yourself and understand the beauty in an ever changing life.

Namaskar.

Veganized Domino’s Pizza

Yes, you read right! I veganized a Domino’s pizza pie today. I was inspired to order it because I had a free medium pie offer from the pizza franchise. As apart of their rewards program for several previous orders, I got to customize a 12-inch medium pizza for free and only paid delivery fees. I did some research and found this article Veganize Pizza Delivery from PETA2. Following their direction I got a thin crust pie with no cheese, regular robust tomato sauce, mushrooms, banana peppers (personal fave!), and spinach. This was the outcome:

The pizza was decent. I found that there’s 2 things to consider when veganizing a Domino’s pie. First thing is that you should definitely add extra of each vegetable topping you pick. It will be 10x more satisfying and filling with more toppings. The thin crust is exactly that and felt as thin as a tortilla to me. The second thing is totally consider carrying it out in person or the distance they’ll have to deliver it to you. Light sauce can mean for a dry pizza. 😭 Overall, I’m glad that I found a doable fast food option!

The Many Meanings of Self-Care

Here is a post that’s long overdue but highly relatable and appropriate for absolutely anyone reading.

What is self-care?

Self-care is any activity that you perform to initiate, maintain, or enhance your emotional, mental, and physical well-being. It’s different for everyone because we’re all unique individuals. We all like & dislike different things so each of our self-care methods or routines are just as special as our preferences.

What activities can be considered self-care?

Since self-care is such a personal thing for everyone, you will benefit most from finding activities that you like or make you feel good. One thing that I’ve learned is that you truly have to listen to yourself and the little voice within to “self-care” correctly.

Does this feel right?
Do I feel accomplished?
Do I feel happy?
Do I feel comfortable?
Do I feel confident?

These questions should yield positive answers if you’re doing it the right way. So here’s the real answer to the question above… what activities can be considered self-care? You have to answer that for yourself.

Some examples of self-care activities can be journal writing, eating a healthy snack, washing your face, taking a walk, meditating, breathing exercises, working out, or anything else you thoroughly enjoy or leaves you with lasting feel-good hormones.

How can I make time for self-care?

This is probably the 2nd most important thing about self-care… finding the time to self-care. I discovered more often than not, people will brush off their needs completely due to work and demands at home. BUT the fact of the matter is that you have to find time even within a chaotic schedule.

Maybe it’s your train ride to work/school, the 15-minute break you take during work or in between classes, the wait at a doctor’s office, etc. Any tiny bit of time has the potential to be more valuable than you might be allowing. Utilize all of the time you have even if it’s in bits and pieces. A little self-care goes a long way.

What are the benefits of self-care?

Self-care is beneficial because it promotes good mental health. Good mental health reinforces good physical health and vice versa. Self-care can be the difference in having better days and making the most out of everyday situations. Consider a more confident and comfortable you just because you’ve made time for yourself. Wouldn’t that you be more successful?

I hope that was insightful in one way or another. Feel free to provide any feedback from reading or your own personal experience by emailing me directly at alyssablooms@gmail.com.

New Routines

Hello there bloomers!

All apologies. My posts haven’t been consistent and I keep promising myself (and you guys!) that they will be. The start of summer has been nothing short of exciting, as always, with plenty of heat here in NYC. I’ve been devoting so much of my time to having fun & staying cool with my son but I’ve also been realizing changes that need to be made in my personal/business life.

After some thoughtful consideration, it makes sense to share some of that journey with my readers. I surely won’t lose sight of the values I’ve set forth for StayBlooming.com and all that it represents but I think this will be a great enhancement of what already exists and is to come. Overall, I want to continue on a journey of self-care, expression, creativity, social responsibility as well as promote healthier, happier, and more productive lifestyle habits.

For starters, I began a daily vitamin/medication regimen earlier this week. At first it seems like an obvious and matter-of-factly kind of thing to do but I have to admit I’ve struggled in the past with creating a regimen like this one specifically. So I made a list of other self-care goals I want to make habits out of and I have 2 very helpful tips to share:

  1. We’re all unique individuals and our physical body is just as special. There are a variety of ways to initiate, maintain, and empower new behaviors but it’s really important to always do what works best for you as an individual. (That may mean what works for Maria might not work for you, just the same way your ideas may not be Maria’s go-to.) This is critical to understand in creating new habits because when you know your boundaries, you’re able to create a viable plan of action around that.
  2. Creating a habit or a regimen requires consistency and, sometimes, lots of reminders. Although consistency is the main point, there’s a secondary point for forming certain habits. Something like vitamins/medication, for instance, should be taken at the same time everyday. You truly have to take into consideration how your body functions and the schedules you tend to keep. If you fix a scheduled time to a behavior/action, you’re encouraging your mind & body to expect it and to develop a habit.

However difficult starting a new habit can be, don’t give up. Sometimes we have to fail to make progress; every attempt made will provide insight on what to avoid and how to do better the next time. I hope this post was helpful and informative as it is extremely relevant in my life. Feel free to comment stories of triumph, tribulations, and what you’ve learned along the way — I’m always open to different perspectives!

Namaskar!
